A Crashed TIE Fighter Burns Slowly in the Forest
There’s a great scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when deserter stormtrooper Finn runs from the burning wreckage of a crashed TIE fighter on the lawless planet of Jakku. Canadian artist Etienne Beaulieu imagined a similar scene, but in a very different environment. Whereas the Jakku shots were filmed in the burning desert outside Abu Dhabi, Beaulieu’s downed TIE fighter rests in a haunting wintry forest on a very different world. Only flames from the wreck’s distinctive ball-cockpit warm the scene. The starboard hexagonal panel remains intact, still connected to the ship’s superstructure. It’s port counterpart, by contrast, lies broken in the nearby snow. TIE fighters are rarely seen within a planet’s atmosphere, and it’s clear that this craft has ventured into space for the last time. Awaiting rescue, the pilot stands gazing at the stricken Imperial starfighter, its broken form reflected in a wintry pool as the daylight gives way to dusk. Read Next: Browse more Star Wars art here.
